Good-Bye Movember!!!

It is officially the first day of December, which means the last day of Movember is over and gone - yay!!! Thanks to everyone for donating - it looks like Canada has raised over $19 million & all countries together have raised over $57 million for prostate cancer research and awareness - pretty good considering it's a bunch of guys not shaving - hehehe! Oh, and all the money hasn't come it yet either - so the guys did really well!

So last night it left - slowly but surely. The scary part was when he was only half-way through and contemplating leaving the rest - yikes!!! Check out the pics . . . aren't you glad he finished the job too?!?!

He went to pray with the kids with the last stage and Navia laughed at him, Kaleb said he liked it and Emma . . . well . . . I had a camera to catch her expression.

She banned him from coming to her school until it was all gone! Do you really blame her?

Movember - Final Stretch!!!

Day 25

Yep - in just 5 days Braden's face will change - again - but this time it will be a quick one - a few swipes of a razor and ta-da . . . his face will be empty of any "stylish" hairs! This has been a great thing for him to do and it's interesting how many other guys you see doing it and wearing "I heart MO" buttons and shirts . . . it looks like the guys around here are embracing this cause like women have been doing for year concerning breast cancer. Navia loves how her teacher has a fuzzy face too - but just under his nose :)

The kids are having a harder and harder time finding places without any "fur" to kiss on Daddy, but love touching the "furry" parts and squealing with "it's itchy!" - so cute to watch!

Mustaches & Musicals . . .

This week Emma had another first . . . her first audition for a musical!!! Yep - her school is putting on "Seussical the Musical" and they had vocal auditions yesterday, which Emma said that she's pretty sure she did a great job!

Auditions were open for Grades 4 - 8 so we talked about how the solos probably would go to the older kids, but she was so honest and said that she thinks being a "who in who-ville" (the choir) would be lots of fun and it was just her first year so she'll have other years to have parts. We listened to her song and she did a great job - yep - we're proud parents!!! We'll let you know what the outcome is when we find out.

And we're half-way through Movember . . . the month that Brade is growing his mustache to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer. It's funny watching Navia go to kiss Daddy right now because she has to aim for the "no fur" parts of his face - and sometimes that takes a little concentration! pssst - Dad, are you jealous of his "sideburns"? I remember Mom always asking the hairdresser to shorten yours as you were wanting them to grow as they did in the "old days" - hehehe!

Movember - Day 6

Day Six today and Braden did his very first "shaping" of the facial hair!

It looks like a handbar mustache . . . but with a twist . . . check on the profile!

Yep - he has the addition of sideburns that are a little more than they were - I guess they're called "mutton chops". (I'm learning so much about facial hair - hehehe!) Notice that they AREN'T joining the mustache so it is still a "legal Movember" mo! And you know what . . . I kinda like it!!!

So, if this is what it looks like after just 6 days, I'm wondering what it will look like after 31!?!?!?!

Movember

This November things are changing in the Bailey household . . . yep . . .November has now officially become "Movember" as Braden as decided to donate his face to this great cause!

Movember is an annual charity event held during November. The Movember participants, known as Mo Bros, grow and groom their Mo for the entire month, raising money along the way to benefit men's health - specifically prostate cancer.

Just a few facts:

* This is most common cancer among Canadian men - it will afflict 1 in 6 men and is a far greater threat for those with a family history of the disease.

* Turning up in men in their 40s

* Going to be diagnosed in about 24,6000 men this year, not including cases that go undiagnosed due to men's unwillingness to go for annual check-ups

* Often without symptoms in its earliest, most curable stage - making annual testing even more important

* Rates of prostate cancer in men are comparable to rates of breast cancer in women

* 4400 men will die this year in Canada of prostate cancer

* Men 40 years and older are recommend to talk with their doctor about a prostate exam - remember . . . its the most curable at it's earliest, non-symptom stage!

Braden's motivation behind this is in part because prostate cancer is in his family, but also because his Mom passed away due of cancer and to be able to raise money for awareness and research will hopefully help others to not lose their parents and to stay healthy for our kids.

Day One - Not a Hair in Sight

He needed to start out on November 1st with a clean shaven face - which has been years since he's had one!!! A few years ago Braden's Mom gave him a trimmer and well . . . since then the razer has gone and the trimmer used, so when the kids saw Daddy's clean face it was kinda funny! Kaleb looked weirdly at him and then said, "I like your fuzzy face better . . . you have a mommy face now", which made us all laugh. This morning (Day 3) Kaleb looked at him and told Daddy that his hair was growing back and he liked how he looked now - and not before. Gotta love kids!

When he went to work the first day the guys all thought that he looked younger - he even got a 29 as a guess . . . hmmmm . . . you'd think that a 36 year old guys who was guessed to look 29 without facial hair might keep it, but nope . . . I just know that he'll end of going back to the trimmer (((sigh))).

So now the important decision is going to be made . . . if he's growing a mustache, what style should he choose??? It can't join to his under-lip hair or sideburns - those are the rules. If you want to have any input you need to speak up now or forever hold your laughter - hehehe - sorry Brade!

The kids are even getting into it and have decided to save their money for this month and give it to Daddy at the end of the month for cancer research . . . Emma said that she doesn't want anyone to lose their grammas or grampas - we've got great kids!

Halloween Candy

I thought that because it was cold there would be less candy in the house . . . well . . . I was right, but "less candy" isn't always still a small amount!!!

Yep, that's all the candy that came into the house last night - at least the part that isn't eaten already!

The kids and I talked today about how we had so much candy in the house and it was going to take a really long time to eat it all, etc and we decided to donate a portion of it to a local shelter that will be including it in their Christmas Hampers. The kids got really excited, and well, with Navia I actually had to tell her that she could keep more because you'd hear her saying, "I only need 2 Smarties, these are too much for me" and then a ton of Smarties would go into the give-away pile. The kids then decided that they should start a "Daddy" pile too, so that he could have the candies that he liked - and they did pretty well remembering what it all was!

So, when all was said and done this is what they were left with in the "keep" pile when all the rest on the floor was the give-away candy . . .

They all know that because some choose to keep more than others, when one child's box is done and I say that they can each have a Halloween candy they will be willing to share - and they were excited about that. . . what happened to my kids???

All I can say is that I'm really proud of them and their wanting to share with other kids. Like Emma said, when they ask to go for a Slushie or McDonald's, etc they are able to go lots of times and they can share with other kids that don't get fun stuff like that all the time.
