Daddy's Minds . . . Hmmmm . . .

This morning Braden ran out to the grocery store before school started to pick up some Children's Tylenol for Emma - her braces are sometimes hurting a bit right now.  I was planning on sending 2 tablets to school for her teacher to give her when necessary.  Well . . . as she was getting on the bus I saw Braden pull up and give her the ENTIRE BOTTLE of Tylenol!  This was a "what was he thinking" moment!  So, I had to call the school and let them know that Emma has a bottle of Tylenol on her this morning and could it be confiscated - medicine isn't allowed on school property unless there is a doctor's note.  Braden - the receptionist was laughing at your thought process - just thought I'd let you know (oh, and everyone else too)!!!

Emma's New Look!

This morning Emma woke up, excited as anything!!!  It was the day that she's been waiting for . . . BRACES DAY!!!

This was Emma just before we left for her appointment in Manotick.

Once we got to the office Emma needed to get "before" pictures taken with the special X-ray machines . . .

. . . and finally she had a mold made of her teeth.

Then it was time for Dr. Nick!  He used a special blue soap to wash off Emma's teeth, then put a special cement on each one and placed 6 brackets on (4 on the front and 1 of each side at the back to hold the wire)

Someone was quite excited to finally see them!!!  Now to choose elastic colors!  Emma wanted 4 different elastics - one for each tooth - dark red, dark blue, dark green and bright orange - yikes!!!  So, with the help of the assistant (who is also a mom of a 9 year old girl) we guided her to choose 2 pink and 2 blue - much better!!!

Welcome to the new face of Emma!  Two pink elastics on the front teeth with a blue on either side.  She is loving the new look!

"Good-bye Maggie" & "Hello Bunny Family"

This afternoon we had to say good-bye to Maggie.  She's been here for 10 days while her owners where vacationing in Mexico.  Her visit to us really showed that our oldest is a very responsible girl (getting up early to clean up the night's poop (ewww!), feeding/watering Maggie 2 times a day, taking Maggie for walks, etc), our middle child - well - he likes having a dog, but only when the dog wants to do what he wants to do (hee hee) and our youngest - she wants the dog to be with her at ALL times!  Maggie was a great addition to our household for the past little while and we've volunteered to dog-sit again, anytime!

One of the funniest things to watch was Navia taking Maggie for a run - Navia holding the leash and running as fast as her little legs will move and beside her Maggie - gently jogging, right beside Navia.  Maggie never tried to go at a speed that was different from Navia's, or move somewhere other than beside Navia.  It was really sweet and funny to watch all at the same time.

One of Maggie's favorite past-times, or so we discovered, as playing fetch.  She would fight you for the stick and then suddenly release it and croutch down to leap for it as it was flung back into the air.  Yep - a past-time that both the dog and the kids loved!

On Good Friday the kids and I wanted to do a craft and so out came my fabric stash and the kids each choose their favorite fabric to make their own bunny.  They had fun choosing what each one would look like, hand stitching the felt cheeks/face on and the buttons,  and Emma even machine sewed the body together.  The stuffing - well - the kids had fun giving them to daddy and watch him stuff - hee hee!

So, let us introduce you to the new family in our house - the Bunny Family.  They are - from left to right - Kaleb, Mommy, Daddy, Navia and Emma!  I love how Kaleb's bunny has a tie and Daddy's bunny has a bow-tie.  Emma had fun choosing her mismatched eyes from Gramma McGifford's button stash that Mommy brought to Ottawa and Navia's eyes kinda ended up looking like a blind bunny - oh well - it's cute - and it's hers.

I did have fun bugging Daddy that I didn't give him a mouth because I was tired of hearing him - lol!  Okay, so not true, but it just wouldn't look right with a mouth, so no mouth for Daddy!  This is my first time trying embroidery since I was a teenager and after doing the Mom and Dad bunnies I think I'd like to figure out how to do it again - it was kinda fun doing.  (I can't believe I just said that).  

Oh, and on Saturday we went out and got Kaleb a big bike, so that he could keep up with us on the ride - it's amazing what a difference a couple inches on the tires makes.

The New Pillow

Navia has found a new pillow in our "house guest" Maggie.  It's soooo cute to see.  Navia will lay on Maggie's bed and watch cartoons, or else use her as the pillow to watch them.  Maggie doesn't make a sound or even move - amazing dog!!!

This afternoon while I was working on my MYC I realized that the house was very quiet and didn't know where the girls or Maggie were.  I started looking around the house and as I peeked into my bedroom this is what I saw . . .

Awww - isn't this cute!!!  (but what is Maggie doing on my bed?!?!?)

Daddy's cooking . . .

"Ewwww - what is that gross smell", said a little boy from upstairs.

"Daddy's cooking supper", Mommy replied, trying not to burst out laughing as she looks over at Daddy's face turning red.

(psst - in daddy's defense, afterwards Kaleb did say that the chicken fajitas were yummy . . . but they still smelt gross!)

A New Family Member . . .

This afternoon the kids got what they have been begging for the last couple years for - a dog!  Her name is Maggie and she is a wonderful 9 year old golden retriever.  She listens soooo well and she smells wonderful (just came here from a day at the spa - i don't get a day at the spa, but Maggie did - not fair!)

Well, okay, the kids didn't quite get their wish . . . Maggie is here and the kids are loving it, but there is a small, small piece of information missing . . . we only get her for 10 days.  Yep - we're dog-sitting!  Maggie's owners didn't want to leave her at a vet's, etc because she's accustomed to being with 2 rambunctious boys (ages 4 and 5) so they put out a request and I jumped at it.  

I thought that if we dog-sat and I make sure that the kids pick up all the poop, go for tons and tons of walks and do sooooo much dog work they would decide that they wouldn't want one because of all the work.  Well, day one and I think it just might be back-firing already.  Hmmm . . . this might not be all that bad . . .
